Background

Now more than ever, journalists and activists in Nigeria are exposed to cyber threats, hostile physical and psychosocial environments as they go about their daily work. It is important that these groups have the knowledge and tools to safeguard themselves and people around them.

As part of its Supporting Digital Security and Press Freedom in Nigeria project, the Premium Times Centre for Investigative Journalism (PTCIJ) with the support of Free Press Unlimited (FPU) is organising a workshop to train journalists and civil society practitioners on digital, physical and psychosocial safety. This training is to enable participants gain skills to protect themselves as they work in potentially threatening situations and digitally volatile environments. It will also be a space for journalists and activists to discuss and learn how to deal with the psychosocial impact of their work.

Who can apply?

PTCIJ training on digital, physical and psychosocial safety is offered for Investigative Journalists, Freelancers and Civil Society Activists who are exposed to threats or prone to potential threats on the job. To qualify you need to be a Journalist, Freelancer or Civil Society Activist with minimum experience of 3 years. The number of spaces are limited and priority will be given to those that work in conflict prone environments, and those with an experience of cyber, physical and psychosocial attack or harassment. Female participants are strongly encouraged to apply.
