Almost 230 refugees rescued off Libya’s coast

A Spanish aid agency rescued almost 230 refugees from the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of Libya. The refugees, now being processed in Italy's Sicily, were trying to make the dangerous crossing from Africa into Europe.

The refugees, now being processed in Italy’s Sicily, were trying to make the dangerous crossing from Africa into Europe.

In 2017, almost 30,000 people have left Libya, Egypt and Turkey in often flimsy, overcrowded boats, according to the International Organization for Migration.
