Wildlife Africa, Nigeria celebrate 2017 World Nature Conservation Day

Wildlife Africa Initiative, wildlife conservation, research, education, and rescue initiative and the Federal Government of Nigeria are set to celebrate the 2017 World Nature Conservation Day (WNCD) scheduled to be commemorated globally July 28, 2017.

Celebrated on July 28 each year, World Nature Conservation Day recognises that a healthy environment is the foundation for a stable and productive society and, to ensure the well-being of present and future generations, mankind must participate to protect, conserve, and sustainably manage its natural resources.

“In realization of the Sustainable Development Goal 13 (Climate Change) and Goal 15 (Life on Land) the Wildlife Africa Initiative is partnering with the Federal Ministry of Environment and the Nigeria National Park Service to mark the 2017 WNCD,” says a statement by Wildlife Initiative Africa.

The event which is themed: “Thank You Nature” will hold at the National Park Service on the outskirt of Abuja.

The statement said Elizabeth Ehi-Ebewele, Head, Wildlife & CITES Management at Nigeria’s Department of Forestry will be guest speaker and the event will feature the selection of Nature Ambassadors and launching of EcoClubs in schools.

‘Seyifunmi Adebote, Wildlife Africa’s advocacy lead said the “Thank You Nature” event would be an opportunity for lovers of conservation across Nigeria to connect with nature.

“It also seeks to make the public have a clear understanding of the relevance of nature and natural resources to them while engaging the public in environmental conservation, education, and management,” he adds.
