Disability Bill: PWDs honour members of Kano Assembly
People With Disability (PWDs) in Kano State have presented an award of honour to the 40 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, over the successful passage of the state’s People Living With Disability Amendment Bill 2018, in a ceremony held last week Wednesday at the assembly’s complex in Kano.
It would be recalled that the Assembly had earlier in March this year passed the bill into law after a motion by its majority leader, Abdulaziz Gafasa, which was seconded by Abubakar Zakari, a member representing Tarauni constituency.
“The award is to thank the entire members of the Kano State House of Assembly for the successful passage of the People Living With Disability Amendment Bill 2018. We also wish to seek for the intervention of the Speaker, Rt. Honorable Yusuf Abdullahi Atta in ensuring the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, accented to the law,” says Abba Sarki, Chairman of Kanawa Educational Foundation for the Disabled.
The People Living With Disability Amendment Bill 2018 is aimed at guaranteeing the fundamental human rights of PWDs in Kano State including enforcing their basic rights like access to quality healthcare, education as well as making public buildings accessible to them or rather disability-friendly.
