Kannywood celebrities urged to promote routine immunization in their movies

The honorable commissioner of health in Kano state, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, has urged actors in the Kannywood film industry to promote health issues including polio eradication and access to routine immunization in their movies so as to positively change public perception on polio vaccine towards the complete eradication of the disease from Kano state.

Getso was speaking Wednesday in Kano at a one-day sensitization event for Kannywood celebrities aimed at educating the actors on polio and routine immunization. The workshop was organized by the Kano state ministry of health, with the support of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Speaking during a question and answer session, Kannywood actor Alhassan Kwalle complained about government hospitals denying them the opportunity to shoot health-related scenes aimed at portraying killer diseases such as polio in their facilities.

“Most movie scenes we shoot in hospitals are in most cases shot at private hospitals because the government hospitals mostly deny us access to their facilities to act. Mr Commissioner, we want you to please give directive to these hospitals to stop denying us usage of their facilities for acting,” he admonished.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of certificates of excellence to the Kannywood celebrities who contributed immensely towards polio eradication and improving access to routine immunization in Kano state.
