AUABC swears-in new Board Members, elects Bureau

The  African Union Advisory Board against Corruption (AUABC), the AU’s anti-corruption agency, swore in its newly appointed board members at the commencement of the 43rd Ordinary Session of the Board held last week, in Arusha, Tanzania.  

The Arusha, Tanzania-headquartered AUABC was established in May 2009 by Article 22 (1) of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC) to “promote and encourage the adoption of measures and actions by State Parties to prevent, detect, punish and eradicate corruption and related offences in Africa.”

A press release by the AUABC said the newly appointed members who were sworn-in for their first term of office were: Hon. Kwami Edem Senanu (Ghana); Hon. Yvonne Mutepuka Chibiya (Zambia); and Hon. Tsiry Harivelo Lalaina Eric Razafimandimby (Madagascar). While those reappointed and sworn-in for their second and final term of office were: Hon. Pascoal Antonio Joaquim (Angola) and Hon. Seynabou Ndiaye Diakhate (Senegal).

Subsequently, the AUABC Board elected some of its members to serve in its Bureau, namely Hon. Seynabou Ndiaye Diakhate (Chairperson); Hon. Pascoal Antonio Joaquim (Vice Chairperson) as well as Hon. Marthe Dorkagoum Boularangar (Rapporteur).

The Board comprises eleven (11) Board Members whose broad mandate is to promote and encourage the adoption of measures and actions by State Parties to the AUCPCC to prevent, detect, punish and eradicate corruption and related offences in Africa.
