Global Shapers Community’s Kano Hub inducts new members

The Kano Hub of the of the World Economic Forum’s Global Shapers Community, has Tuesday inducted a new set of members at a ceremony attended by members of the Hub, held in Kano, Nigeria.

The Geneva-headquartered Global Shapers Community is a 5000-member strong global network of 420 hubs across major cities of the world “developed and led by young people who are exceptional in their potential, their achievements and their drive to make a contribution to their communities.”

While welcoming the inductees at the ceremony, Kano Hub’s outgoing curator, Salisu Mahmood, said membership of the Community was reserved for “young, extraordinary and highly committed youth with great potential for future leadership roles in society, who also share a spirit of entrepreneurship in the global public interest and adhering to the highest standards of moral and intellectual integrity.”

“The Kano Hub was started over 4 years ago and has so far successfully executed many community development projects,” recalls Salihu Yakasai, the Hub’s founding curator. “The projects are around carrier guidance and counseling, blood drive campaigns, providing access to clean water and discussion roundtables.”

“Our expectation of the new members is to be committed and make sacrifices for the hub’s progress. Commitment and sacrifice are very critical for the success of the hub.”

The event also witnessed a change in the mantle of curatorship of the Kano Hub as well as award presentation to outstanding members of the Hub. The 32-member Kano Hub is one of 7 existing hubs of the Global Shapers Community in Nigeria and around 50 such hubs exist across Africa.
