NFNV Nigeria moves to strengthen partnership with UN Women

The leadership of the Pan African network of women in business and finance New Faces New Voices (NFNV) in Nigeria has moved to strengthen its relationship with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) in West Africa with a visit to UN Women’s representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Wednesday in Abuja, Nigeria.

“We are requesting for a partnership with UN Women in the areas of women’s empowerment, training and advocacy as well as women cross-border trade in West Africa. We are therefore seeking your intervention in our quest to get the gender department of ECOWAS to work with us on our project on Raising Voices for Women Cross Border Traders in West Africa,” said Aishatu Debola Aminu, country director of NFNV Nigeria, who led the team.

In her response, Comfort Lamptey, UN Women Country Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS commended Graca Machel, the widow of the late Nelson Mandela and founder of the NFNV network for what she had been doing for women in Africa adding that UN Women would explore opportunities for partnership with NFNV Nigeria on diverse areas such as peace and security, economic empowerment as well as women cross border trade.

“As we go forward we will explore opportunities of partnership with you on our common areas of interest such as women in peace and security, women’s economic empowerment and women’s cross border trade.  We are excited and looking forward to building on this relationship,” said Lamptey.

NFNV Nigeria, in partnership with the United Parcel Service, the US-headquartered global logistics company, last week commenced the implementation of the second phase of NFNV Nigeria’s “Raising Voices for Cross Border Traders in West Africa” project with a two-day regional roundtable with stakeholders on women cross-border trade in Dakar, Senegal.
